The Government of Bermuda, through the Ministry of Energy, Telecommunications and E-Commerce, Department of E-Commerce and the Child Protection Task Force, have been working together to develop and enact legislation that better protects Bermuda’s children from online predators and abuse.
The Task Force members are; Maureen Trew, Mark Clarke, Susan Moore-Williams, Marva O'Brien, Kennette Robinson, George Ross, Kevin Anderson, Marisa Sharpe, Nancy Volesky.
The result of their efforts is the Criminal Code Amendment Act 2007. The Act makes it a crime to attempt to lure or exploit children online as well as to use electronic devices of any kind to access, view or distribute child abusive material or child pornography. The Act is just a first step.
The Department of E-Commerce is also partnering with the ISP's and cell phone carriers and have just developed an industry code of best practice that will harmonize their efforts in the fights against online crime and the exploitation and abuse of children.
